Element provided geotechnical and environmental consulting as part of a pre-design feasibility study for a proposed health care clinic in northern Whatcom County. The primary geotechnical investigation scope entailed eleven geotechnical borings. The combination of granular soils and shallow groundwater posed a liquefaction susceptibility which we analyzed to determine potential for total settlement and mitigations needed. Based on the results, we recommended shallow ground improvements to enhance foundation stability and avoid a costly pile or mat foundation. Element also installed five shallow monitoring wells and recorded seasonal groundwater variations over multiple winters to assist with civil design. The scope of work included a Phase I ESA to verify no environmental concerns prior to property purchase.
