Anacortes Residence

Element has the expertise to address contaminant discovery and tank removal sampling, as demonstrated by this project. An old Heating Oil Tank (HOT) with field indicators of petroleum contamination (pungent odors and stained soils) was discovered during earthwork for a residential addition on Fidalgo Island near Anacortes, Washington. Element was contacted to provide soil sampling, documentation, and environmental consultation during remediation. Our staff responded promptly by visiting the site to advise the contractor on removal of soils suspected to be contaminated with petroleum products, and sample remaining soils after excavation. Initial extents were limited due to proximity to structures. Upon review of the initial sampling results indicating remaining presence of elevated contaminants, Element returned to take additional samples and observe while final excavation and backfill was done in a short timeframe. We successfully confirmed the removal of petroleum-affected soils and enabled the preparations to be completed. For this project, Element worked on behalf of the contractor and homeowner with sampling records and procedural documentation indicating proof of compliance with Washington State cleanup regulations.
